Do you guys have a room in your house where “stuff” just accumulates?  For us – that happens to be our office/craft room.  Now this is a problem as I need to get this room cleaned out for a couple of reasons.

1.  We are going to consolidate the office/craft room into the guest room to make room for the baby.

2.  I have to be able to get to my couch so I can sell it on Craig’s List.

3.  My sanity is being tested by the piles of mess.

So how bad was it…. well.  Take look.

Oh isn’t it horrible? Check out the closet.  Yikes!!

So I knew I needed to get it all cleaned up.  I basically locked myself in there this weekend and got it all cleaned up.

My tips for tackling a space like this?  Well first – I recommend starting on one side of the room and working your way around to the other.  I also recommend having a large trash bag and a donate box handy.  I also think it is good to bring your cleaning supplies with you so you can clean as you go.  For example – I love stuff that smells good.  So being able to dust and clean and have it start smelling fresh keeps me going!

So how did it turn out? Check it out now.

Ahh… so much better!  Now I can take some good pics of the couch to get it on Craig’s List.  (Faith might not be too pleased with me though – she loves to nap on this couch!)   And the closet?

So much more organized!  And I even made some of my storage containers a little spiffier with some nice little labels.  They look much cuter now!

I am so pleased with the room and feel completely organized to start to all kinds of projects now!  Don’t you just love how a clean and organized room makes you feel!

So what about you?  Do you feel better when you get a space all put together?  Have any spaces you have cleaned out recently?  I wanna know!

Nicely done Jess. I don't know what I'd do if we suddenly had to move into a small apartment with few places for storage. I could never live in NYC!

I definitely feel better when my studio is uncluttered. I actually feel more creative when my room is all neatly organized. Your room looks fabulous and I love that white desk that your Silhouette is sitting on.

You're a cleaning and organizing pro! And the contented cat in the after picture is always a plus!

I've been following along with "I'm An Organizing Junkie." She has a 52 Weeks Organizing Project--doing one organizing project per week. Here's the link:

You should definitely post your before and after there! This is fabulous!

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along.
I thought I wouldn't leave my first comment.

Keep it up.
Thanks.

I once emptied out "The Junk Drawer," bought one of those Container store drawer thingies with all the little squares. At a glance there were paper clips, post it notes, pens, scissors, plant fertilizer spikes (I dunno, that's where they lived) a ziplock of perm markers, etc.

And, it stayed that way..for years.
(Because I got rid of all the "might need somedays" that cost less than $5.)

Now I'm married.
And, I need to organize OUR junk drawer. it's filler with all SORTS of stuff. lol.

Yes, I love to organize! I'm picking up and rearranging things every day. I'm off this week and started going through our closet. I've got a huge bag of stuff to give away! It already looks much better. Clean rooms/closets make me so happy.

I love to clean up my spaces. Unfortunately my three children are not such fans of clean and uncluttered spaces. *sigh* I just keep telling myself that before I know it they will have houses of their own and I will miss their messes!
Looks great!
Keep on nesting!

Lovely. Inspires me to tackle our office/dump area. Or our Laundry Area/old battery area. Or the BIG DUMP, er, I mean Garage.

It's amazing how you were able to clean that room. The room looks good as new. You really did your best to get things done. Organizing things is one hard task, especially if you don't know where to begin.

There is a room in my basement that seemed to pile up the clutter. I call it my storage room, for obvious reasons. But nothing was organized, everything was sort of just throw in. I decided to take care of it, and good thing I did. Apparently there is a leak in the window, and I have some water damage that was hiding behind some boxes!

It's a wonderful improvement! Seeing clutter around the home gives one an urge to clean and organize, no? Getting the job done, sorting everything out, and getting rid of all the garbage can feel so satisfying and peaceful. A clean office/home feels serene!
