I think if there is one moral or lesson I have learned through a year of blogging about thrift store and yard sale treasures is that you have to look past what you see on the outside.  Now I have a wine rack that I got from Southern Living Home (before it was Willow House) years ago.  And I think I paid at least $30-$40 bucks for it.  But it was a moment of weakness and I love things that a wrought iron!  Here is a picture of my little rack.

Well – when I was moving, my mom made a comment about how much she liked it and how she needed one too.  I don’t know about you, but I always file those little comments away as potential gift ideas.  And wouldn’t you know that one day at Goodwill I stumbled upon a little wine rack that was bright blue and half price!  Look at this – it is simple too adorable to pass up for $2.50!!   And very similar in style to my rack.

So I bought it and let my momma pick through my stash of spray paint to decide what color she wanted it.  It came down to Heirloom White and Oil Rubbed Bronze (ORB).   Eventually – she settled on the ORB!  Excellent choice!    Unfortunately – we were into the dead of winter and I had to wait for a warm weekend to be able to spray it up.

Well that finally happened last weekend – it was 63 degrees here!  Heat wave!  And before I get any nasty comments about paint fumes and being pregnant, rest assured that I took all precautions necessary.

I am just too hot, right??  I know!  But hey – you gotta be safe!  Honestly – we should all be wearing these when we pull out the paint.

I got to spraying and I just love the way the finish of the ORB came out!  Isn’t that just beautiful!!

Here it is all staged and pretty in my house!  I think we can all agree that it is gonna look great at my Momma’s too!  And for $2.50 that is a bargain no matter how you look at it!

Just perfect!  So remember – don’t worry about the color of a piece you are looking at – if it has good lines and a classic style, a little bit of paint can go a long way!  Have you picked up anything recently that you had to look beyond the color?  I wanna know!

Looks great! Love spray paint. I recently bought many mismatch frames of all different colors and sizes and spray painted all of them the same color for a collage. The wonder of spray paint. :)

Spray paint is a fantastic product for updating or getting the look you want.

In Bunny William's book, Point of View, she said that she shops everywhere for the rooms she designs, looking at the lines and construction of a piece instead of the finish.

Hi there,
I'd really beginning to "see through" to the potential.

Matter of fact, I just posted about a really fun vintage coat hanger transformation. http://www.cookingatcafed.com/2011/01/how-they-hanging-simple-coat-rack-idea.html

Those were Pier 1 and clearance. Love clearance!

As for that wine rack, it's totally darling. I would expect to see that marked at $30-40 - just like you mentioned at Willow House.

NICE JOB!

I found a 'new' thrift store Friday. OMG! You'd go crazy! I went crazy! Tons of things just waiting for me and my spray can and paint brush!

Love the wine rack. Bet your mom does too!

Jess... it turned out great! I too file it away in my brain when others say they like something... you never know for future gift giving!! Love the pic of you in the mask! :)

Beautiful! It came out really great. I love finding things and transforming them with a layer of paint. Also, you look super intense and ready for anything in your gas mask.

I love the transformation. I really try not to look at color because I know I can always change it.

I love it. I have several cans of spray paint ready for a project for my girls' room. Unfortunately I am not anticipating any warm weather anytime soon!

I hope you are feeling well!

I love it! You've really inspired me with the ORB paint. If it ever gets warm here again, I've got a couple of projects ready to go. And to think I'd never heard of the stuff until I read your blog.

I used that same heatwave to spray, too! :) It is amazing what a little paint can do!

I LOVE the thrift store!
I recently redid a lamp from the thrift store and a couple picture frames! We got a HUGE one (pictured in my post today) that we painted then bought glass at Homedepot (and they cut it for us) and it only cost like $5

I also love that you filled it with sparkling water and not wine, although, I loveeeeeee wine!
It just makes it different. Very pretty, this is a classic, and a great amount of spots to hold bottles. well done, stopping over from A Shabby Chic Cottage
