Creating a Ribbon Flower Wreath

Did you guys have a great holiday weekend?  Ours was fantastic!  We went home and I got to spend some quality cuddling time with my one week old nephew.  I love how snuggly lil babies are!  Anyways - when we drove home the hubby was driving.  And when he drives up to our house, he always drives around the "other" way to our house.  I just drive up to the side where the garage door is, he comes around the other way.  So as we drove up, I got a much better view of the front door.  And whoopsy - my spring sign was still up.

Well, this presented an excellent opportunity to come up with a new summer wreath.  I was flipping around online last night and found these cute napkin rings on MarthaStewart.com.  I loved the idea of the little flowers made out of ribbon - so I decided to use this idea to make some flowers for my wreath.

So to start you need some ribbon.

Fold it up accordion style and then run a needle with some thread through the short end (aka - where I am holding it pinched).

Knot the thread and then fan out the pleats.  Put a little fabric glue between your two ends and voila - an adorable flower!

Next to attach the flower to my grapevine wreath - I ran a bobby pin through the flower.

Then you just find a nice lil vine and slide it on there.

I grouped them in threes.  Ta-da!  Finished wreath - I think it is sooo adorable!  I especially love my bandana print ribbon I found!

So what about you?  Got anything fun and summery on your door?

  3. I love it!! How cute! I have a wreath just like that, waiting...now I know what for! However, I am a little intimidated when it comes to sewing of any kind....hmmm...maybe I'll have to get over that hurdle, because that's just stinkin' cute!

  6. I was quite impressed by your skill. I have no skill although I do like to attempt things like scrapbooking and such. My welcome sign was created by Coconut Palm Designs (http://www.coconutpalmdesigns.blogspot.com/). It's a peaceful Muskoka chair scene.

Thanks for popping by my blog.

  14. I loved this idea so much I ran out to my local $1 ribbon bin and bought some cute colors. My son's birthday (polka dot themed) was in a few days and this would have been a cute decoration for the door. I found one problem, to get the cute circle accordian look, it has to be thick ribbon like 1in+ I still made my ribbon wreath, but mine ended up looking more like flowers :)I plan on posting my experience while linking to your blog so people can see you're cute spin from the original napkin ring idea.

PS, I loved your star addition, it was perfect "pop"
