(Sidebar - I couldn't start this post without making that my title. Snicker! If you know the movie that is from give me a shout out in the comments so I don't feel like such a geek!) So I have been looking for a new lamp for the living room since about June. And I have looked high and low! I found some I liked but they were always like $40-$50 and I just do not have the budget for that. I finally decided after seeing about a bazillion revamps from other fabulous bloggers that I was just going to do one of my own!
It all started after I found this beautiful shade 90% off at Hobby Lobby for $3.20! Can you believe it?!?
Once I had the shade - I knew what size and style of base I wanted. So I got this beauty last weekend at Goodwill for $2.50! Total steal!

So this weekend I got to working on the lamp base with a little ORB spray paint! (For those of you new to the blogging world's abbreviations that stands for Oil Rubbed Bronze!) Here it is after a couple coats - LOVE it!
As a quick tip, I taped off part of the cord and then wrapped the rest of it in a plastic shopping bag! A simple way to keep the cord from getting sprayed too! Again - can I continue to confess how in LOVE I am with the finish on this thing?
So you want to see the finished product! Here she is! My new beautiful $5.70 lamp!
I love her! Here is a shot of her on - the shade is so beautiful! And the dark trim blends so well with the darker base! And my kitty, Fidget, says she loves it too!
Now - here is a shot of the Living Room before with my old lamp and my visual to-do list.
And now here it is with my new lamp!
The lines of the shade are so much better and I love how the darker base adds some visual weight back there. Love! I just keep sitting here looking over at it and sighing with adoration. It is seriously starting to annoy the hubby - but I really don't care!
So what do you think? Have you ever redone a lamp? Would you think about it now?

Nice job on the lamp! LOVE ORB!!!!!
Beautiful makeover! I have an antique brass floor lamp that is screaming for a makeover. Perhaps ORB!
Jess,
That looks great! I love the way it turned out. ORB spray paint rocks! I've used it on all my switchplates and outlet covers around the house and they look great.
Enjoy your new lamp...even if it annoys the hubs. :)
Traci
definitely a great fix, but what's really standing out to me is how this chunkier lamp is really the right look! the orb darkness looks great with your new coffeetable, too.
That lamp is just perfect!! Much more proportional and helps ground that corner! What brand of paint is that? Was it spray paint?? Great thrifty work!!
Lisa
yay anchorman!!! Beautiful picture!
Wow! that is all I got- Wow!
Brick, are you just looking at things in the office and saying that you love them?
I laugh more at that movie each time I see it! Great job!!!
Hot coffee pot! It's a beautiful lamp. Great job. Keep up the great work on the living room. It will all come together just the way you want it. :)
Oh I love your new lamp. It is just perfect. That shade is a steal for sure. Shades are so hard and that one is perfect. I love ORB on just about anything. Hugs, Marty
I love your blog and decided to link a couple of my favorites from your posts. Thanks for inspiring me.
The lamp looks fantastic.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I love lamp, too! I have about twenty to re-do. You are very lucky that the base fits the shade. Many people get the proportions wrong, but yours is perfect. I have a "lamp shoppe" in my basement. It was my Christmas present almost two years ago. Lamps make all the difference in your rooms. I have bought most of mine on ebay, because I can't find enough at garage sales and our thrift shops are no good. Good luck Ann
This is a real transformation. Great job. I think the new lamp really adds some oomph.
great looking redo...and let's hear it for Anchorman...I LOVE LAMP!!!
:)
The lamp is great!
This looks terrific Jess! You find the greatest things(that lampshade is sickeningly cheap!) Love the ORB, awesome!
It's lovely, Jess! Your room is coming together beautifully! I've redone a lamp that I already had at home - actually, thanks for reminding me that I needed to do a post about it! lol The only thing I am scared of about buying lamps from GW or the like is if they are safe, kwim?
But I am envying that lampshade. Not fair that there's no Hobby Lobby in Canada. I must email them to complain.... ;)
super super super cute. i'm floored at the bargains you find! i keep scouring goodwill, but even with a can of spray paint, i don't think a lot of that stuff would look great. you're lucky!
ORB is good... I'm going to go out & find a lamp to re-do!
I love Anchorman, great title! I can't believe that lamp is 5.70! It looks like a million bucks! And it goes so perfectly with the room, you did awesome!
Happy Met Monday! You know, I've never heard of ORB paint - but what a beautiful finish! It's much warmer than just regular old black. Your $5.70 lamp certainly looks like something right out of PB! :)

Looks good! I should probably stop getting all my lamps from IKEA...
I love that spray paint. It's my fav!
I love your new lamp :) Not something I've tried, myself, but I'd certainly give it a go.
The lamp is awesome!
I had actually never heard of ORB but, I liking it!
I sigh in adoration on certain projects that turned out really great too.
My hubby shakes his head at me..lol.
I love that!!! Super cute, isn't spray paint great!!!

Yes, I've done a lot of lamps in my time. But I have to get me some ORB spray! When I think of the time I spent faux finishing lamps to look like ORB - and now they have a spray paint! Forget the techie stuff - that's progress!
I love how that turned out! I would love if you would come over and link up to my blog. I think that my readers would love this.

Your lamp came out really nice! Was the base a ceramic style base? The color now looks great!
Wow, that came out great! I haven't done over a lamp yet, but there are some lampshades I am thinking of decorating...
It turned out great! I re-did my two lamps in the master with ORB! Love it. I am racking my brain trying to figure out the movie that line goes to! I can't! I'm gong to go crazy---what's it from???
I'd love it you stopped by my blog and joined my Friday link party!
