So, I know you have had a burning question since last week.  What is she going to do with the yard sale mirror???  Well I have decided after much debate that I liked the idea of doing a chalkboard best.  I had just the place for it in the kitchen and thought it would be a fun place to put a menu or to do list!

So for starters - I decided to make the chalkboard part of the board out of cardboard.  I know what you are thinking - your going to make a chalkboard out of cardboard?  Yep - I sure am.  And here is why - there was a perfectly sized piece of cardboard in the back of the frame of the yard sale mirror.  No cutting, no measuring - it is already there.  So I sprayed my lil piece of cardboard with two coats of chalkboard spray paint and then rubbed down the surface with chalk.

Its so thin!  But it works - you can write on it, erase and then write again!  Chalkboard in a can might be one of the coolest thing has ever been created.

So here is the finished product all hung up in our kitchen!  I love it!  That was our very healthy dinner!  (With ice cream - of course!  Gotta save my calories for something!)

And a shot from a little farther back - with my bird plates

Sigh - who knew I could love a piece of cardboard that much!

So the question of the day is - have you ever used Chalkboard Spray paint and if so what for?  If not - what would you love to spray some on to make some instant Chalkboard magic?  Inquiring minds want to know!

I was tempted to paint some cardboard too after my initial project debacle. So glad to see it worked for you and that little board looks great in your spot. Thanks so much for linking up Jess!

I'm going to make my first chalkboard this weekend. I'm glad I found this party so I can get an idea of what works.

Have a great day! La

I love it! I wanted to do an inexpensive chalkboard project but didn't know what material to use, it doesn't get much more inexpensive than cardboard! THANK YOU! (I'm visiting from the Shabby Chic Cottage).

I love this idea. I have a chalkboard fetish... but I usually use the brush on paint. I better pick up the canned version.

Ooh, I really like the idea of using it for a menu! Now I'll have an actual use for the one in my kitchen. ;) Love the birdie plates too! I'm visiting from Beth's Chalkboard Paint Party. My link is #8 on the list (I linked an older post). :)

I don't like using spray much! I used the chalk board paint that comes in a can that you brush on--I like a bit more control and I don't like all the directions that spray flies!!! Anywho --glad you succeeded!

I finally made my first chalkboard a few months back. I found a large gold frame with a hideous rather scary looking picture in it for $5 at our local thrift, so I just spray painted the frame white and "chalkboarded" the ugly picture. Turned out fabulous! Now I'm even more obsessed with chalkboards.

Jess, I love it! Of course, I noticed the bird plates and am curious: did you make them? If so, what technique did you use?

The menu board is such a great idea! My daughter was a picky eater though, so she'd probably fret about what she was having for dinner all day!

I HAVE used cardboard for chalkboard! I used the little inserts that came in the mail package with my girls dance pictures to keep it stiffer. And it worked great because it had some texture to it! Great minds think alike :)

Ooh. What a great idea. It looks amazing. I'm sure no one walking into your kitchen would ever imagine it's humble beginnings. I will definitely have to try this.

I HAVE to get the spray! I only have the globby one you paint on with a brush and I think the spray does a better job!

Wow - that looks awesome! I'll be on the lookout for a cheap frame with cardboard in the back to use your idea!

Thanks for sharing. I just had the same dilemma (since I was going to use glass that came in the frame, but it broke. I'm glad you shared because I think I will use cardboard now! I assume it was the chipboard kind and not the corrugated cardboard.

cool! i always save those large pieces of cardboard, i know i'll end up using them for SOMEthing... and this is a great idea! by the way, those bird plates are awesome, where did you get them?

Using a brush or roller, apply the chalkboard paint within the taped-off area. For best results, use a Benjamin Moore custom-blended nylon/polyester brush or short-nap roller.

These toys, with their sleek designs and vibrant colors, not only engage young minds but also contribute to their cognitive development. I thought the Rex London Child Wallet would be a great way to educate my daughter about money management, so I included it in her Back to School Supplies bag this year. I like how strong it is, which is vital for small children, and she enjoys the bright graphics. You may put your lunch money, ID card, and perhaps some handwritten messages in there. To put it simply, it's practical and entertaining for kids and their parents alike. An excellent complement to the necessities for every student's schoolbag!
