(Sidebar - I couldn't start this post without making that my title. Snicker! If you know the movie that is from give me a shout out in the comments so I don't feel like such a geek!)  So I have been looking for a new lamp for the living room since about June. And I have looked high and low! I found some I liked but they were always like $40-$50 and I just do not have the budget for that. I finally decided after seeing about a bazillion revamps from other fabulous bloggers that I was just going to do one of my own!

It all started after I found this beautiful shade 90% off at Hobby Lobby for $3.20! Can you believe it?!?

Once I had the shade - I knew what size and style of base I wanted. So I got this beauty last weekend at Goodwill for $2.50!  Total steal!

So this weekend I got to working on the lamp base with a little ORB spray paint!  (For those of you new to the blogging world's abbreviations that stands for Oil Rubbed Bronze!)  Here it is after a couple coats - LOVE it!

As a quick tip, I taped off part of the cord and then wrapped the rest of it in a plastic shopping bag!  A simple way to keep the cord from getting sprayed too!  Again - can I continue to confess how in LOVE I am with the finish on this thing?

So you want to see the finished product!  Here she is!  My new beautiful $5.70 lamp!

I love her!  Here is a shot of her on - the shade is so beautiful!  And the dark trim blends so well with the darker base!  And my kitty, Fidget, says she loves it too!

Now - here is a shot of the Living Room before with my old lamp and my visual to-do list.

And now here it is with my new lamp!

The lines of the shade are so much better and I love how the darker base adds some visual weight back there.  Love!  I just keep sitting here looking over at it and sighing with adoration.  It is seriously starting to annoy the hubby - but I really don't care!

So what do you think?  Have you ever redone a lamp?  Would you think about it now?

Jess,
That looks great! I love the way it turned out. ORB spray paint rocks! I've used it on all my switchplates and outlet covers around the house and they look great.
Enjoy your new lamp...even if it annoys the hubs. :)

definitely a great fix, but what's really standing out to me is how this chunkier lamp is really the right look! the orb darkness looks great with your new coffeetable, too.

I love lamp, too! I have about twenty to re-do. You are very lucky that the base fits the shade. Many people get the proportions wrong, but yours is perfect. I have a "lamp shoppe" in my basement. It was my Christmas present almost two years ago. Lamps make all the difference in your rooms. I have bought most of mine on ebay, because I can't find enough at garage sales and our thrift shops are no good. Good luck Ann

It's lovely, Jess! Your room is coming together beautifully! I've redone a lamp that I already had at home - actually, thanks for reminding me that I needed to do a post about it! lol The only thing I am scared of about buying lamps from GW or the like is if they are safe, kwim?

But I am envying that lampshade. Not fair that there's no Hobby Lobby in Canada. I must email them to complain.... ;)
