Something about fall makes me think about cozy fabrics.  And nothing is more cozy than velvet.  I have found myself stopping several times when looking at rooms and just loving some of the velvet furniture out there.  But I think I would be hesitant to put it in my home.  I even started researching it online and apparently commercially manufactured velvet is pretty hardcore and can take a lot of abuse.  So my question for you to today is would you have velvet furniture in your home?  Or do you?

I have some gorgeous pictures of some different velvet pieces to tempt you with as you decide!  Enjoy!

Love these wingback chairs but would be so afraid of stains!!

Using velvet is a great way to put a bold pop of color amid a sea of patterns. Just like the way this settee does.

While a lot of people think of velvet as a traditional design type fabric – it can be surprisingly modern on the the right piece of furniture.  Isn’t this sofa just beautiful?

Love this pop of blue - it is just so classic in this room.

These two little chairs are just so adorable.  I love the way they feel traditional but look so modern! Photo via House Beautiful

Isn't this charcoal sofa beautiful? Perfect with the pops of pink!

I love this velvet covered headboard. Just the perfect touch in this room. (Which by the way - I love this room!)

So tell me now, did any of those intrigue you?  Are you pro-velvet or against it?  If you have some in your home please let us know if you would make the same decision again!  The jury is still out with me!

I don't think I would want any velvet furniture. my parents had a velvet couch and every time anything was spilled on it or the velvet was rubbed in a weird way it had a permanent weird mark on it. it is pretty though and looks so luxurious :o)

My mom has a dark blue velvet wing chair, and it is durable, easy to clean and a lint brush makes it look fab all over again. I say go for it, cause it is a cozy chair!

All my furniture decisions are made with one question...how does it hold up to dogs/dog hair? It is very beautiful but with my furry babies and all their digging, scratching & hair I'm not sure how they would hold up!
This probably doesn't help you at all..lol

I love the look of velvet, but for chairs and sofas it certainly gives me pause to the durability of the material. With people scootching around on it on a frequent basis, it seems the nap would get worn down and look shabby (I suppose if one is into shabby, that's perfect!)

On the other hand, I really do adore the feel and luxurious look of velvet, so I fully embrace it as an accent texture, such as in the headboard, which receives less wear and tear. I think my grandmother had a velvet headboard when I was young; and I think it translates to a modernized retro-chic very well.

I love velvet and have a sofa, chaise and dining chairs covered in it. It is so durable and with pets I would have nothing else!! I have washed the covers and they always come out looking like new. Over the years I have had antique chairs recovered in different fabrics and my cats have destroyed them in a matter of months. All my velvet furniture still looks amazing...hope this helps.

I had a chair recovered in chocolate velvet and I love it! Never had a day's regret about it, and my children have never hurt it, either. Huge fan of velvet!

You know, I don't have velvet in my home, but I remember a wingback chair that my grandmother had that was velvet. We have been wanting a wingback for our sitting room and now I am thinking that might be the perfect fabric for that room.

Jess, having sold furniture in the past, I can tell you that some of today's velvets are WONDERFUL and I love the look! Check the rating though and make sure that they are water soluble. That means, if you clean off a stain or smudge with a damp rag, your fabric won't bleed or fade when using. It's surprise how many of those velvets aren't! Many of the velvets must be dry-cleaned by a professional cleaner only -- total hassle. I LOVE the look of velvets!

I'm thinking a set of velvet panels for your windows would be a good option if you are worried about keeping things clean.

I love the look of velvet but don't have any furniture covered in it. My husband doesn't like it.

I am very pro-velvet and have found that FOLEX works wonderfully to get our stains! Go for it!!!

I have a velvet damask chair and it's nearly indestructible to spills. I'm not crazy how it feels on my skin though. I prefer leather for it's kid friendliness and feel.

the velvet sample I intend to upholster my sectional couch in is a beautiful and durable deep burgundy color- the only problem is that it collects a great deal of lint - does anyone know of anyway to control this problem with velvet furniture
